      Rod moved his private consulting business of 17 years to a private company structure in 2008. He provided leadership to the company in the Chief Executive Officer position until 2016. Rod continues to provide specialist consulting services and high level management advice for the company's projects and remains as Chair of the Board of Natural Resource Planning. Rod leads a team of consultants specialising in the science and practice of natural resource planning and management. Major project work has included: • Delivering the first Forest Stewardship Council certificate for a full scale, native forest operation in Australia; • Extensive flora and fauna surveys in the Western Division of New South Wales; • Technical support, management planning and property mapping services for primary producers; • Development of the Tasmanian Regional Ecosystem Model, a high resolution tool for supporting holistic decision making and priority setting for biodiversity management and restoration; • Forest Certification Support services for: - Forest Stewardship Certification Australia; - Accreditation Service International; - Forestry Tasmania; - Gunns Limited; - Norske-Skog; and - PF Olsen. • Eight years as Independent Scientist to the Tasmanian Private Forest Reserves Program; • Designer of the prioritisation systems for the Tasmanian Conservation of Freshwater Ecosystems Values project, the most comprehensive database of freshwater values in Australia; • Advisor to the Forest Conservation Fund on conservation value metrics and decision support tools for private land conservation; • GIS services provider for the Tasmanian Forest Conservation Fund; • Multiple projects providing GIS services, data, advice and development of comprehensive natural resources databases for a range of organisations, including: - Private companies; - State and Commonwealth government agencies; - Primary producers; - Natural Resource Management organisations; and - Local government.

      Rod Knight took up the position of CEO of Landcare Tasmania in 2016. Landcare Tasmania is the peak representative body for the community Landcare movement in Tasmania. It comprises around 280 member organisations with some 5,000 members and volunteers performing around 165,000 hours of voluntary community Landcare work annually. Rod brings experience across a wide range of areas to the position, particularly in the areas of environmental science, business development and change management. His personal aim for the position it to strengthen and grow the Landcare movement in an environment of changes funding circumstances and environmental challenges such as climate change.
