Sara Williamson CMD, RT(T)

I have worked with Rocky from 2007 to the present. I am an RT(T) and have collaborated directly with him during the simulation process, and also delivered treatments that he has planned. My experience of Rocky is that he crafts plans that meet the physicians' requirements and that best benefit the patient. His work is meticulous and thoughtful, and his work ethic is strong. Our clinic sees diverse types of disease, often later stage that require thinking outside the box, and Rocky takes these challenging cases in stride. That being said, he gives his full attention to every patient he plans. As a therapist, I appreciate that he understands and takes into account workflow on the treatment table, and he works with the therapists to create plan setups that are as efficient and accurate as possible. He would be an asset to any department, and he has both my respect and highest recommendation.

Since working in West Georgia I have re-familiarized myself with Eclipse, currently using 16.1, as well as gained a working knowledge with Aria at least insofar as this center utilizes it.Once I got the lay of the land regarding departmental processes, I offered suggestions for improving communication, which were implemented. Now we take photos during simulations which are entered into the patient record to aid the treating therapists during verification. There is now also a daily 10 minute simulation meeting between physician, therapists and dosimetry to discuss the sim objectives for the day as well as any potential 'gotchas' with new verification sims. The changes have been very enlightening for the team and we are better prepared for tasks. I have also been recognized by the staff and physician with notes of thanks for my various contributions and work ethic.

As I was one of the last CMDs to sit for the board exam using the OJT pathway, my initial responsibility as a junior dosimetrist was to learn all I could in two years in order to pass the exam which I thankfully did on my first attempt. After that, the daily responsibilities didn't change much but gears shifted toward further proficiency, depth of understanding, and evolving modalities we acquired:Minimal 2D planning; heavy CT based planning utilizing Mosaiq/Monaco 5.11 3D, IMRT, VMAT, and an emerging SBRT/SRS program.Prior to Monaco I used Eclipse up through release 10 and was proficient at it. Shouldn't be hard to catch up to the newest releases.Growing experience with HDR/LDR planning. All contouring of OARs, including neck lymph node volumes.Expeditious turnaround times to minimize patient treatment delays.Secondary verification calculations using RadCalc.Assist with CT simulation and immobilization devices as needed.Assist with patient transport and lifting as needed.Provide guidance to staff and physicians regarding portal or CBCT discrepancies as needed.Assist medical staff with treatment planning software as needed.Act as a central hub of information and idea sharing between physics, therapists and physicians.

My career started at RCTC as a therapist apprentice while I received didactic training at Weber State University once a month. Once I was certified as a Radiation Therapist I worked there for almost a year performing the standard duties of most first year therapists:Performing daily warm-up proceduresSimulating patients for treatment planning utilizing conventional as well as CT sim methods.Aligning and verifying patient setup for treatmentCreating immobilization devices as well as cerrobend blocks to shape the radiation beam.Assisting physics with diode placement as needed.
