Integral to my role was developing the Institute’s relationship with parliamentarians and providing briefings for external stakeholders and other colleagues on our current policy priorities. I recently led on the development of our parliamentary engagement strategy for the 2015/2016 session and am actively involved in contacting MPs to set up meetings on a variety of subjects. One major project was the development and commissioning of a piece of research into the impact of early intervention by trading standards upon scam victims. Working with colleagues at East Sussex Adult Social Care and Bournemouth University I led on the development of the research proposal using qualitative methodology.I regularly represent the organisation at external meetings and am currently representing CTSI on the BSI consumer and public interest strategic advisory committee I led the organisation of our parliamentary fringe events on scams for the 2015 party conference season and succeeded in securing a strong panel and an influential partner for our events. I also managed the Institutes’ most successful parliamentary reception ever in 2015, securing partnership from two major charities and influential speakers including the Minister for Public Health. Other day-to-day duties include parliamentary monitoring of debates and written/oral questions, drafting letters responding to queries received by the policy team, drafting consultation responses, updating the policy web pages, writing blog posts and drafting short articles for our monthly newsletter TS Update and online magazine TS Today. On occasion I have also written press releases for the communications team and provide information for social media engagement.

I worked directly with the Policy Director to implement TSI's policy and campaigns work.Day-to-day, the role involved conducting parliamentary monitoring, researching policy issues relevant to trading standards and compiling policy briefings for upcoming parliamentary debates. I also wrote regular blog posts and other media articles for our members' newsletter, TS Update, and our monthly online magazine, TS Today. Other aspects of the role included organising events such as our twice yearly lead officer day and APPG Consumer Affairs and Trading Standards meetings. Major achievements include the organisation of two successful parliamentary events (at Westminster and Holyrood) and the planning and implementation of a new, UK wide, competition for the Institute: 'Create a Campaign'.
