Robin is a detail-oriented, conscientious, thoughtful, and hard-working researcher and instructor. Her fortitude to complete the task at hand and her dedication to her work and her students contribute to her research and teaching success. Robin's keen sense of insight into animal and human behavior make her an asset to any research or teaching environment.

It is with great pleasure that I recommend Robin. I have known Robin since January 2012 and have worked closely with her teaching Biology 101 at Montgomery College Rockville Campus. I have seen her grow into a fine teacher and one who cares for her students. She and I did a lot of brain storming about the best way to approach the topic of the day. Robin was always receptive to the ideas and contributed many of her own ideas. Robin helps students learn the material with innovative classroom activities. Her lesson plans show careful planning.

At Outward Bound, I facilitate social-emotional learning in students via outdoor expeditions and 1-day events. We focus on learning goals such as community building, fostering self awareness, character building, and developing leadership skills. These learning goals are met within the context of challenge course and rock climbing activities, as well as on backpacking, canoeing, and sea kayaking expeditions. I taught middle school science and high school earth and space science. While teaching here, I organized a canoeing field trip with the Chesapeake Bay Foundation for 6th grade science students and a planetarium field trip for high school students. I also organized and managed a year-long greenhouse project for 6th graders that had a service learning focus, and that involved students learning about and growing vegetable crops, and then cooking a dish with that crop to share with the class. I taught biology and environmental science classes from an experiential, community-based perspective. I worked to connect students with field experiences on the Chesapeake Bay through canoe and sailing field trips. And, I coordinated maintenance of the school gardens, which emphasized vegetable and native plant species. These gardens were incorporated into curriculum-based learning experiences for students, and also served as sites of exploration into ecosystem-level phenomena. Assisted with wetlands habitat and wildlife studies including investigating abundance and distribution of amphibians, birds, invertebrates, mammals, and plants; duck nesting behaviors; and Canada geese and colonial waterbird migrations. I also participated in outreach activities including assisting with the annual Crane Festival and participating in an annual trash pickup event. Under direction of refuge biologist Kelli Stone and ASC professor Robert Benson, created comprehensive map of agricultural field types in relation to sandhill crane feeding behaviors; results facilitated management decisions. Under direction of ASC professor Tim Armstrong, collected and analyzed data on influence of newly constructed walking trail on avian usage and nesting success at the Monte Vista NWR; results were presented at local conference.
