During my time at APAIT-SSG, I pioneered and supported the creation of SPARK, the Substance Prevention and Abuse Reduction through Knowledge which targeted high-risk HIV individuals between the ages of 18-24 in communities of color. Using multiple means of recruitment with event planning, social media, and in-person approaches, six participants passed through the program. On top of SPARK, I am a certified HIV tester going to events in the testing unit to increase the testing numbers for the CDC. A highlight from my career was being able to hold a RuPaul's Drag Race Season 11 Finale with Gia Gunn as our host for the event alongside with Miss Shu Mai and Blasia Discoteca. The event was highly successful with over 30 individuals attending the event, 25 signing up for programs, and 20 getting tested at the event. Show less

Moving from working with students and being on a school site, I had the opportunity to work with the Human Resource and Operations team. This enforced a lot of my administrative abilities as I organized inventories for computer and uniform shipments, training sessions for the thirty-one partner schools, and reinforced my Microsoft Publisher abilities as I worked on the online directory.

As a Team Leader, I was able to mentor nine first-year AmeriCorps members in professional and personal development during the transition between their previous lives and City Year. Along side of mentoring my team of AmeriCorps members, I was fortunate enough to facilitate multiple training sessions to different groupings of teams about student engagement strategies, the service model, and AmeriCorps development throughout the year.

I worked with a caseload of 11 ninth grade students, six in English and five in Math, throughout the year. By the end of the year, two of my math students improved by 750 points in their standardize testing. Alongside working with students, I was able to host City Year's "Summer Slide" event at the school, promoting summer time learning. The event had an attendance of 70 students, giving out over 150 books for summer reading, and provided students with eight different possible internships and learning opportunities. Show less

At Target I was able to get cross trained in three different departments, Hard Lines, Cashier, and Guest Services allowing me different perspectives of working with guests in a retail setting. Hard Lines gave me management over my own aisle. Cashier gave me the ability to generate a welcoming atmosphere for guests during the end of their trip. Guest Services gave me the opportunity to provide support to guests who needed further assistance with their products. During my time at World Wide Motion Pictures, I was able to see what it is like working in the entertainment industry on a smaller scale in terms of operations and management. As a public relations intern, I had the opportunity to manage their Tumblr account, creating traffic for the movies through original content created by individuals in the organization and myself.
