As a supervisor, I am accountable for the smooth operation as well as policy and procedure compliance within a program that provides support to individuals with developmental disabilities, serious emotional disturbances, and/or medical fragility (as well as their families, caregivers, and guardians). I manage the efforts of caseworkers who provide service to dozens of clients, inclusive of reviewing visit summaries, weekly reports, and psychosocial evaluations. Ensuring the comprehensiveness of documentation and the timely filing of the reports is my responsibility and this work is subject to regular audits. I have expertise filing reports with multiple agencies—NYS for Medicaid waiver reimbursement, Administration for Children’s Services (ACS), Division of Juvenile Justice & Opportunities for Youth (DJJOY), and either Nassau County’s or Suffolk County’s Department of Social Services (DSS). I utilize an in depth knowledge of the NYS Office of Children & Family Services (OCFS) mandated regulations, enabling me to comply with ad hoc requests for bulk statistical information about groups of individuals receiving services. I also ensure yearly updates of psychiatric evaluations to maintain level of care eligibility. On a regular basis, I communicate with professionals from the Nassau County DSS, Suffolk County DSS, ACS, and DJJOY about clients who are in a treatment facility, in foster care, or need a short-term placement. Additional communications include those with parents and caregivers, including feedback on caseworkers’ performance. In addition to my role as a supervisor, I am also “in the trenches” handling typical caseworker responsibilities, such as medical consent forms, updating individual Health Plans, and processing clients’ transitions. I actively participate in team meetings to discuss changes in services for clients. These meetings are within the agency as well as at public schools [Committee of Special Education (CSE)].
