A well-circulated quote asserts, "Just be yourself, everyone else is taken." I love that here, at Pinewood, our students are encouraged to nurture their gifts of individuality, and to explore all the ways they can grow their curiosity, intellect, and interests. This is what makes the college counseling process at Pinewood so enjoyable for me—that I have the privilege of supporting students in their exploration and research of colleges that will best fit who they are as curious, intellectual, interested, interesting, and ever-growing human beings. While it is our responsibility to inform, guide, recommend, and give our students the tools needed stay on track, it is the students, themselves, who are asked to take control of the process. From freshmen year in asking them to pay attention to how they learn best and how to understand what they need to be the most successful as students and young people of character, to guiding seniors through the essay and application process--and so much more in between--we are sensitive, mindful, and caring of the many ways students find their way to making their own decisions regarding their college research and choices. It is a great adventure, and I am happy to be a part of empowering our students to grow in their knowledge, independence, responsibility, and excitement in the college admissions process.
