Brian Frisch
I urged Rob to join MySpace as a ColdFusion developer at a time when the company was starting to transition away from the technology. Switching to .NET was only one of the many challenges he faced and tackled while at the company. But Rob really shined when he was tasked with managing one of the biggest projects in MySpace history. It had garnered him a lot of respect and after the launch of the project there were many different groups trying to recruit him as a manager. Rob has a definite passion for learning new technologies and is able to quickly adapt to different situations based on where he is needed. It is Rob's flair for creativity, logical reasoning abilities, organized approach to projects, and patience and understanding with people that really sets him apart.

I worked with Robert for several months on what was--at the time--the most technically challenging and business mission-critical projects we had undertaken. Robert served as a development lead, and expertly picked up additional (and increasingly difficult) roles as we approached our hard deadline. Robert facilitated communication with our release process, handled the integration of our dev, test, and stage environments, was instrumental in triaging and assigning bugs, and was always willing to take on more while still mentoring more junior team members. I wouldn't hesitate to work with him again!

Sr. Product Manager

Sep 2006 - Nov 2013
During my 7+ year tenure at MySpace, I worked directly with everyone from co-founder Tom Anderson all the way to Justin Timberlake's creative teams. I served in multiple roles, starting as a lead software engineer, moving into management, then into product. I created, launched, and maintained many successful high-profile products and features used by hundreds of millions of users across multiple platforms. I managed multiple teams, and served in both product owner and scrum master roles. As product manager, I reported directly to the VP of Product, owned and re-built several core features of the website and mobile app, including Photos, Videos, Music, Analytics, and several partner projects. Responsibilities included detailed product specifications, feature roadmaps, tracking analytics, UX, and often creation of initial prototypes. I was also responsible for cross-team communication and coordination with engineering during all phases, from coding to marketing/PR for all launch promotions. As engineering manager I reported directly to the Senior VP of Engineering. My responsibilities included new employee training and orientation, career path and performance reviews, salaries and budgeting, and overall roadmap for the teams and their projects. In this role I re-defined MySpace's entire build/release processes, turning a process that took a full day into a fully automated system that took less than an hour from dev to production. Other teams of note were Application Security, MySpace Developer Platform. As lead software engineer, I was responsible for application security (filtration, XSS, and SQL injection prevention), and definition of security best practices. I was also responsible for development and code review of numerous product features, working across the full stack, (front-end/platform/infrastructure/database), utilizing HTML, CSS/JS, C#/ASP.NET, Microsoft SQL. The first product I developed and released was MySpace's 1.0 video feature. Show less
