During my 13-month apprenticeship with Multiverse, Robert went above and beyond what is asked for and required of an apprenticeship coach. He was always responsive and receptive, offering timely feedback which kept me on track and eventually led me to achieve a Distinction in my final apprenticeship qualification. He showed a keen and genuine interest in my cohort’s learning, development and wellbeing in how he invited and encouraged everyone’s participation in workshops and took the initiative to create additional resources when the standard curriculum materials didn't quite hit the mark, which provided a strong base for revision that greatly eased the stress of going into my end-point assessment. As my coach, Robert balanced being a passionate professional I could look up to whilst also being a peer I could relate to and learn from.

Robert first joined Come On Out - Japan's Global English Camp program in 2018 as one of two-hundred university student participants to teach English in Japan. In the years since, he was instrumental not only in pivoting our program delivery strategy from in-person to online in 2020 with the advent of COVID, but also in single-handedly taking over and redesigning our training strategy for 2021 and 2022, which grew end-program training satisfaction from 2.8/5 in 2018 to 3.9/5 in 2021, and, by implementing our participants' feedback, to a further 4.1/5 in 2022 - an overall 46.4% increase since 2018 in the perceived value and level of preparedness for ~180 participants/year. Robert shines for his passion for education, his mutual accountability-fostering leadership style, and his data-driven work ethic.

As a Program Director, my efforts have resulted in an average 40% increase in the participant-rated metrics relevant to my role. Within my role, I am responsible for the design of the application process and delivery of info sessions, recruitment and interviewing of new, prospective candidates and experienced past participants, onboarding procedures (including email communications and regulatory compliance, performed remotely), training development and delivery for our in-person orientation week, and management of 30 participant leaders within our internal team leadership structure. Additionally, I serve as the key liaison for our program sponsor, Toshin High School - the largest preparatory school network for university entrance examinations in Japan.

Over the course of two years, I have developed from-scratch training to prepare 338 students from top-ranked USA, Canadian, and UK universities to teach English to over 4000 students across seven intensive three-day virtual English camps based in Japan, 2021-2022. In addition to spearheading Come On Out's first in-depth online training in 2021 by pitching it to the company's stakeholders and designing high-quality, accessible training presentations via Google Slides, I have since… Show more Over the course of two years, I have developed from-scratch training to prepare 338 students from top-ranked USA, Canadian, and UK universities to teach English to over 4000 students across seven intensive three-day virtual English camps based in Japan, 2021-2022. In addition to spearheading Come On Out's first in-depth online training in 2021 by pitching it to the company's stakeholders and designing high-quality, accessible training presentations via Google Slides, I have since delivered over 22 hours of training across annual pre-program orientation weekends with a focus on building smaller teams within the larger cohort and focusing on setting up teachers with a mindset to succeed with minimal guidance. Collectively, these trainings have received 92% overall satisfaction from teachers, and stakeholders in our partner company commented that "the level we saw in the teachers from Day 1 this year is what we would have expected to see in Week 3 in previous years".

    • Lead Content Architect
      • Jun 2020 - May 2021

With high English competency being key to admission to Japan’s top universities, I consulted the development of an innovative digital edtech Ideathon for Japanese students with global ambitions. In addition to facilitating weekends with 180 participants reporting 90%+ end-programme satisfaction, I was instrumental to the design and delivery of key module content via Zoom and Remo, management of an organisation-wide Google Drive, and training of 30+ programme coaches across six time zones.

    • English Teacher
      • Jul 2018 - May 2020

Working in partnership with Tōshin High School (東進ハイスクール) in the capacity of a teacher, coach and facilitator, I taught English to 8 groups of high school students in Japan by facilitating discussions that supported them in discovering their personal life vision and building their confidence to speak English. In 2019, I took on additional responsibility by fostering a collaborative team culture as a returning mentor.

Additionally, I am responsible in my team for the design, implementation and management of our sick cover system for coaches and the regular maintenance of our end-of-program Gateway resources. Excelling in my role entails leveraging seven key, continually assessed competencies: - external stakeholder management, particularly between apprentices and their managers; - cross-functional partnership, specifically between multiple internal teams; - effective preparation, specialising in workshop and coaching session delivery; - data-driven decision-making, underpinned by continual monitoring of my metrics; - commercial awareness, oriented around a two-sided market; - coaching mastery, driving growth mindset development and apprentice-originating business impact; - content mastery, centring around data processing and analysis with Excel, Power BI and Sheets.

With every day carrying a balancing act between worlds physical and virtual, having meaningful relationships is simultaneously easier, harder, more important than ever before. What does it take to bring out the best in your friendships, iron out problems with people before they get to you, and even deepen what you know about yourself? As a speaker-coach and world traveller, I shed light on just that. Every month, I reached and served a diverse readership by "deepening what you know about… Show more With every day carrying a balancing act between worlds physical and virtual, having meaningful relationships is simultaneously easier, harder, more important than ever before. Through authoring articles that create a sensory world for readers to explore, I regularly reported on goings-on around UCL. Working in partnership with UCL Library Services, I was instrumental in the creation of the “Library of the Month” series that used interviews with key figures and sensory storytelling to bring the oldest and the newest spaces of my university to life. My articles circulated in the weekly myUCL newsletter which reached over 40,000 current students.
