  In July I hosted an intensive one-week puppet-making workshop for stop-motion animation at IED Milan. Twenty-five dedicated students joined me for this immersive experience. Throughout the week, students learned the intricate art of crafting their own puppets. They built aluminum wire armatures, complete with brass cubes and aluminum tubes for interchangeable limbs. These puppets were given lifelike silicone or wool exteriors. The process was multifaceted, covering character design, aluminum manipulation, armature assembly, sculpting heads and hands, mold-making, and casting silicone parts. Various materials, including milliput, adhesives, and silicone pigments, were explored. I consider myself fortunate to have had such an exceptional group of students. Their curiosity and dedication were truly remarkable. Each day, they devoted a minimum of eight hours to the workshop, and some even took their projects home to perfect the finer details. Notably, many students demonstrated the ability to craft props and even design small backgrounds. By the conclusion of the workshop, every participant had not only acquired the skills to create intricate puppets but had also gained proficiency in utilizing the "StopMotion Studio" app, mastering its operation, and effectively setting up lighting for their animations. Exciting stop-motion updates are on the horizon, one related to education and another to an animated project. In the meantime, enjoy some of the workshop's incredible results. Show less
