I have had the pleasure of working with Roberto on estimation of soil moisture and vegetation opacity from SMOS and other L-band telemetry data. Nemesio Rodriguez
I have worked with Roberto on a new data processing chain for the European Space Agency (ESA) Soil Moisture and Ocean Salinity (SMOS) satellite. I have been impressed by the systematic and rigorous approach he took to tackle this challenge of implementing a new processing chain with a new optimal parametrization. He also defined and performed a thoughtful evaluation and testing strategy. Finally he contributed to the communication effort on this project with oral contributions in international meetings and writing reports. In summary, he contributed to most of the phases of this project in a very efficient way and furthermore, it has always been a pleasure to work with him. He is used to work in international teams and in three different languages, which is definitely an asset.
