I worked under Rob for the period of a year whilst in the role of Club Development Officer at University of Warwick. Rob’s self-reflective and empowering line managing style really helped my self-development as an individual fairly new to the HE sport sector. Rob is a very supportive individual who would go above and beyond to ensure that I was equipped with the right tools and contacts to complete any task given, whilst also giving me the autonomy to make changes to current practices and try out new ideas. He always had my back and trusted in the work that I did, always making me feel like a truly valued member of the team. Rob is also a very kind and thoughtful friend and this reflected the culture of the team that he led, where every member of staff was made to feel welcome and given the opportunity to have their say, with no idea dismissed. Rob showed me the importance of taking the time to reflect on the work that you do both on a professional and personal level and as a result has played an integral part in my own development in university sport and as a person, exhibiting a management style I hope I can one day reflect in my own leadership roles.

I reported directly to Rob during his time as Sport and Active Lifestyles Manager at the University of Warwick. Rob was always extremely supportive as a manager and is a highly skilled communicator. He got the best out of me in my role as Club Development Officer and improved my collaborations with the wider Warwick Sport team. I would still consider Rob to be a great mentor during my career in Higher Education and would not hesitate to work with him again should the opportunity arise.
