I joined the Department of Clinical Computing of Beth Israel Hospital in 1995 where I participated in the development of consumer-oriented and evidence-based medical informatics alongside such Harvard pioneers as Warner Stack, John Halamka and Danny Sands. Those skills were fully catalyzed in the following years at the Center for Alternative Medicine Research where, under the leadership of David Eisenberg, I experienced being one of the few full-time information professionals in the nation whose work focused on building resources, collaborations and educational initiatives in the field now known as Integrative Medicine. Educating physicians, insurers, investors, and students on the practical and political realities of this phenomenon brought me into contact with outstanding healthcare reform advocates such as Don Berwick, Ralph Snyderman, Regina Herzlinger, and others whose work focuses on restoring the power of the consumer into the healthcare system. Our recent initiatives in sustainable nutrition and combating obesity have helped connect me directly with visionary leaders in this field including Walter Willett, David Ludwig, and leaders of Health Care Without Harm. As project manager I have designed, managed and taught in numerous Harvard Medical courses including the creation of one of the first ever online HMS-CME courses to be offered. I was the first project manager for the Center’s botanical research program forging an NIH grant-supported international collaboration between multiple U.S. teaching hospitals, industry, and universities in China, Hong Kong and Japan. I serve on the Organizing Committee of a series of international research conferences premiered by Harvard and now continued by a 45-member Consortium of Academic Health Centers for which I manage all outside communications, publications, grant management, abstract review, marketing and curriculum development.
