Bio
M. Clayton Farrington
Robert's effort to rescue historical photographs from the nearly impenetrable bowels of the National Archives and other obscure sources and make them available to the public through the National Museum of the U.S. Navy’s Photograph Curator site on Flickr has been, in my opinion, nothing short of herculean. In just over two years, he has posted nearly 20,000 high quality digital images, making the task for people like me of telling the Navy’s story to the public much easier. I have also promoted the NMUSN Photo Curator site to colleagues in the Navy public affairs community as well as members of the local news media as being the new go-to site for historical Navy imagery.

Researches, writes, edits, and produces scripts for videos and photographic presentations for the National Museum of the US Navy. Within seven months, I have written, edited and produced over 460 potential photograph exhibits for a new location for the museum. In addition to writing this script, within a span of a month, worked out the plan to exhibit of over 600 images related to the Korean War for a special exhibit area at the Pentagon. Since 2013, researched, wrote, and edited a 60 page script on World War I, with close to 300 corresponding images that were hand-picked and scanned. The video can also be broken down into sixteen different parts for strategically located kiosks and can be adapted for use online for presentation. Have completed the groundwork to the Battle of the Atlantic exhibit with over 70 pages and over 400 images. Travels to a wide variety of museums, collection, and libraries and researches topics to incorporate materials from other collections into the museum’s exhibits. Since July 2013, I have gathered close to 29,000 images from the National Archives that can be picked for exhibit use in the new museum location. The imagery can be reviewed in easy to reference finding aids that are now over 2,000pages long. Fluent in various computer programs used to adapt photographs for published media and moving images. Interacts with the public and presents topics to a wide audience of professionals. Created the first ever digital collection of imagery for the National Museum of the US Navy, incorporating and cataloging over 6,000 entries of historic photographs for staff and outside exhibit and/or presentation use.
