    • Leading Teacher (House Leadership) at Warrnambool College
      • Jan 2016 - Jun 2022

Leading the Childers House at Warrnambool College allowed me to help students build a house culture students would be proud of.Through Warrnambool College’s unique vertical house system, I was responsible for leading a team of teachers and educational support staff to ensure that our students were happy and safe at school. We achieved this by ensuring that their pastoral needs were met and that students felt connected to the College on an individual, house and whole school level.A trauma informed approach was used to support between 180 to 220 students from Years 7 to 12 with their wellbeing, pathways choices, pastoral care and behaviour supports.Authentic relationships and high expectations were paramount to establishing connection, participation and aspiration, while supporting students to discover a genuine belief in their own abilities helped build the foundations of their relationships.Student Leadership was at the core of the cultural development of the Childers House. Student voice and a culture of student agency allowed our student leaders to define our collective identity, decide on our house values and set goals on how to address problems of practice on the College. Philanthropy played an important role in our community links and the vertical house system allowed for student led transition activities, peer support and cross year level connection. Our Clontarf and Kalay academies, along with Koori Engagement Support Officers (KESO) play an important role in supporting the Childers team with the wellbeing, engagement and attendance of First Nations students. Our office space is welcoming and inclusive of differently-abled, multicultural, EAL, and rainbow young people in all of their forms. My nine years in the Childers House team, almost seven as leader, has allowed me to create an environment that allows students to thrive in every sense of the word.
