UKMFTS aimed to provide three different aircraft training platforms, facilities and support of the platforms to enable the UK Armed Forces to train its pilots/aircrew in a standardised training pipeline, and thus achieve cost savings. The Hawk AJT is the culmination of the pipeline for Fast Jet pilots. My responsibilities on UKMFTS included generation of proposal documentation, management plans, schedules, presentation material to senior stakeholders, decision matrices, configuration management and assisting the Project Manager in loading the proposal into the Customers proposal software. The turnaround time for the proposal was very short, so this was excellent experience in fast proposal management and required working outside of my comfort zone and taking on activities I would otherwise have had opportunity to undertake.

Alongside this practical learning I also produced an NVQ Level 2 in Performing Engineering Operations. Additionally, an ONC in Mechanical Engineering was completed via day release to Hull College. After completing the first year I chose to direct my career away from manufacturing, and extended my apprenticeship by three years to encompass operational roles within the office environment. This involved rotation around business placements in several different technical departments, including; Quality and Capability, Manufacturing Engineering, Production Projects, Project Management, Logistics, Estimating and Supply Chain. The last year was spent in Project Management, primarily working as the Risk and Opportunity Manager for the RAF Hawk AJT Contract.
