Sport Integrity Australia leads the Australian government’s efforts to protect sport against threats to its integrity – doping, competition manipulation and the mistreatment and abuse of sports participants. Sport Integrity Australia is the cornerstone of the government's comprehensive sport integrity strategy: Safeguarding the Integrity of Sport. This involves providing advice and assistance to counter the: - use of prohibited substances and methods in sport - abuse of children and other persons in a sporting environment - manipulation of sporting competitions - failure to protect members of sporting organisations and other persons in a sporting environment from bullying, intimidation, discrimination or harassment. • Everyday Champions
    • Canberra, Australia
    • Founder and Head Coach
      • Nov 2016 - Present

Everyday Champions is a Canberra-based social enterprise that aims to support people with a disability to live a great life and do our bit to create a more understanding and inclusive community. We run activities, programs and events that promote healthier lifestyles, increased social engagement and greater community inclusion. Our goal is to do things a bit differently - to treat people with a disability as active and contributing members of society. This means reinventing how support is delivered for people with a disability so their 'support worker' is more of a coach or mentor - not a carer. You might say we're on a mission to help people with a disability set and achieve important life goals, make healthy lifestyle choices and feel like valued members of their local community. I've been involved in the fitness, sports and coaching industries since the 90s and am passionate about helping people live a fit, healthy and full life. In my view, investing in your health and fitness has to be about more than just physical training. It has to include doing the right things outside the gym to really get the results we're working towards in the gym. I’m not your everyday Personal Trainer. I like to think I’m more of a Health & Fitness Coach, applying the principles of personal training and wellness coaching to support my clients to make the holistic changes in their lives that are going to stick. I really want to break the mould, get great results and do my bit to make a positive difference in people's lives. My goal is to help men and women over the age of 30 get fit, strong, healthy and happy. To do this, I've established 720 Health & Fitness to provide personalised face-to-face and online health and fitness coaching. Show less

The global mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with an intellectual disability, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community. Research has demonstrated the unique power of sport to improve the physical, mental and social wellbeing of people with a disability. My role is to develop, implement and manage sport programs delivered in partnership with schools and disability service providers (DSPs) across Australia. A key part of the role is establishing a National Framework for the delivery of school and DSP programs and supporting Sport Development Managers and Community Sport Coordinators to establish school and DSP clubs in their state to help increase participation of people living with an intellectual disability in sport. The core objectives are to increase participation at the grassroots level, develop the sports program and its implementation, develop new avenues for new athletes join Special Olympics Australia and maintain relationships with key stakeholders. • Sport Development Manager ACT & NSW
      • Jun 2014 - Jul 2018

My main goal in this position was to get more people with an intellectual disability playing more sport more often in NSW and ACT. To do this I worked closely with a large group of passionate volunteer coaches, committee members, mentors and others who run sports training every day of the week and providing regular competition opportunities. I was responsible for planning, monitoring and evaluating community sport programs, facilitating development of the annual competition calendar, supporting our clubs to introduce new sports, establishing partnerships with State Sport Organisations, schools, disability service providers and mainstream sports clubs. Menslink is a Canberra charity that supports young men across the ACT region. Menslink aims to help them develop their positive potential in all areas of their lives, through two main activities, a Mentoring Program and Counselling Service. Menslink's goal is to help young men get over the hurdles and challenges in their lives and develop into responsible, contributing adult men and members of society. Since 2002 Menslink has assisted over one thousand young men in making their way into the adult world. My role involved all aspects of running a youth mentoring program in line with the Australian Youth Mentoring Benchmarks. This included recruiting, training, matching and supporting local volunteers to mentor a young bloke aged 13-18 over a two year period. I worked closely with the Chief Executive Officer to conduct community outreach into local schools. This involved delivering the Silence is Deadly campaign in partnership with the Canberra Raiders and ACT Brumbies which aimed to talk with young men about getting help and answering any questions they may have. I also organised and event managed the highly successful 2014 ACT Men's Health and Suicide Prevention Conference. Show less

  • AusAID
    • Canberra, Australia
    • Development-through-Sport Program Officer (secondment)
      • Oct 2012 - Aug 2013

The Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID) is the Australian Government agency responsible for managing Australia's overseas aid program. AusAID provides advice and support to the Minister for Foreign Affairs on development policy, and plans and coordinates poverty reduction activities in partnership with developing countries. In this secondment position, I managed AusAID's $31m investment in development-through-sport activities in the Pacific Region, delivered by the Australian Sports Commission in partnership with a variety of government, non-government and sport partners. Activities include the Australian Sports Outreach Program and Pacific Sports Partnerships Program. These initiatives are designed to use sport as a vehicle to address the non-communicable disease crisis in the Pacific and enhance the lives of people with disability. My key responsibilities were: 1. Ensuring AusAID's Development-through-Sport investments in the Pacific meet AusAID's design and implementation quality standards. 2. Providing sector specific advice to support the development and delivery of new activities, with a strong focus on the use of sport to enhance the lives of people with disability. 3. Liaising with key staff in AusAID's Pacific Division to build the profile of development-through-sport and ensure activities are aligned with AusAID's thematic and bilateral priorities in the region. 4. Managing relationships with AusAID's Development-through-Sport policy area and the Australia Sports Commission. Show less
