    • Service Manager Maori Health
      • Mar 2008 - Sep 2016

I am a UK/NZ registered Nurse with 25 years experience. I have been working in Moari Health for 8 years. I am currently the service manager/operational manager for a broad range of health and social services in Central Hawke's Bay on the north island. The role is broad and encompasses all aspects of senior management. I currently manage 10 health and social service contracts with a range of contractors. I am responsible for all aspects of relationship management and contract management, from strategic planning, quality and risk, budget, and project management, to the day to day nuts and bolts of service provision. I manage several teams including a clinical nursing team, a whanau ora team, and a youth team. I provide strong leadership and support to my staff and I have developed a culture of innovation, so much so that my services have won our regional health awards for the last 3 years running. This is something no service has ever done before. Equality and Equity in health is something I am passionate about. I am proactive, enthusiastic, innovative, I am able to recognize gaps in services and present proposals resulting in building capacity. I embrace Te Ao Maori and Whanau Ora , and I am an advocate for Maori health. I began general nurse training in the UK in 1991 after a very broad life experience and job experience including being self employed as a carpet fitter and market trader. Since qualifying as a nurse I have worked in a variety of settings including 3 years working with the homeless and 10 years in operating theatres. Over the course of my life and work I have developed a deep understanding and an affinity to all those who are struggling with life, the disadvantaged and the vulnerable. I seek through my work to lead and develop services and approaches which address the challenges of equal health for all. I became a Christian in the 80's and this change in direction has heavily influenced my career choices and is my key motivator. Show less
