Line management responsibility for three operational aircraft bases; helicopters in Glasgow & Perth and fixed wing in Glasgow.Air Ambulance Service BackgroundThe Air Ambulance Division of the Scottish Ambulance Service augments and extends the service provided by conventional land ambulances, in response to emergency incidents, urgent and planned requests across the whole of Scotland, predominantly, but not exclusively in remote rural and island locations. It is fully funded by the Scottish Government Health Department and operates 24/7, all year round. The Air Ambulance fleet comprises two helicopters and two fixed wing planes, all of which have been purpose built to our specifications. Two Airbus H 145 helicopters are based in Glasgow and Inverness. They respond to emergency calls and requests from remote, rural or island clinicians to provide medical care and transport to mainland health care facilities. Two King Air 200c planes are based in Aberdeen and Glasgow and in the main, they respond to medical requests to transfer patients between hospitals.I also line manage the staff of Scotland's Charity Air Ambulance based in Perth, their helicopter is a Eurocopter EC135.All of our aircraft operate with paramedics on board and fly just over 3,500 missions every year. The Service also works closely with ScotSTAR which is the specialist retrieval teams covering adult paediatric & neonatal critical care transfers across Scotland. Close working links are also forged with Search & Rescue colleagues of HM Coastguard aircraft who assist us at times of great demand or inclement weather.
