Caeli Nova is an exciting start-up company working to develop new patented technology for a range of products that will be applicable across various industry sectors. Our first product, for the aerospace market, aims to save airlines millions of dollars per year, improve passenger experience, and reduce global aviation carbon emissions. Beyond aerospace we foresee a wide range of equally exciting markets to move into next. As CTO at Caeli Nova, have established the following: • An R&D capability, both in-house and in partnerships with universities, to undertake research into key sub-systems. • An EASA and UK CAA approved aerospace design organisation, capable of developing and certifying new aerospace devices, as well as installation design via modification Supplemental Type Certificate (STC). • A physiological trials organisation, capable of undertaking ethically approved physiological studies to support and certify our current and future products. • A patent portfolio, based upon evolution of the initial research into a number of concepts and products for future exploitation. • A supplier base for R&D activities, as well as a network of sub-contractors for the provision of sub-system design and manufacture. • Support to funding activities, including award of multi-million-pound Innovate UK research grant. • Support to development of customer base for launch of first product through my network of multiple aircraft OEM, airline and defence customers. As Programme Director within the Military Aerospace business unit, I was accountable for the on-time and on-budget delivery of all fleet sustainment and capability enhancement modifications for UK and international military customers. I had oversight of the design, manufacturing, procurement, aircraft production and testing activities (including EIS and through-life support) and ensured the customers’ operational requirements were met. My broad portfolio had an approximate revenue of £200m, and projects typically included avionic and flight management system updates, satcom communication relay capability enhancements, and incorporation of defensive aids. Chief Engineer - Special Missions Aircraft Test Vehicle

In this role, I led a large team of multi-disciplinary engineers working on the modification of a Bombardier Global 6000 aircraft into an aerodynamic test vehicle as part of the wider conversion of the Global 6000 into a Communications and Signal Intelligence Surveillance platform.With a multi-million-pound budget for materials, personnel and avionics equipment this complex programme encompassed a wide range of disciplines such as Avionic, Structural, Stress, Aerodynamic and Flight Test. I was responsible for multiple complex hardware and software supplier contracts in the USA, Canada and Europe, and led dispersed teams remotely. Reporting to the Programme Director, I was charged with all engineering decisions including schedule planning and adherence, change management, customer liaison, supplier performance, programme budget, and team construct. As Head of Flight Test Engineering, I was responsible for leading a team of Flight Test Engineers, observers and instrumentation engineers, tasked with development, certification and experimental flight test activities, under various regulatory environments (e.g. EASA, UK CAA, UK MoD, RNLAF). I ensured the planned flight test activities were conducted in a safe and progressive manner, in accordance with the appropriate procedures and legislation, on time and to budget. I defined, managed and tracked design and verification requirements, coordinating with partner flight test organisations such as Airbus and the Canadian Flight Test Center.As part of my activity to minimise cost and risk, I oversaw the design, commissioning and operation of an avionic hardware-in-the-loop rig and simulation facilities, using an in-house designed flight simulation environment. As lead Flight Test Engineer on the A400M Engine Flying Test Bed Programme (high-risk experimental flight trials of the completely new TP400 powerplant, on a C-130K Hercules Flying Test Bed), I was responsible for:• Planning and execution of all flight testing of the test engine, propeller and aircraft;• Structuring progressive clearance of the test aircraft flight envelope, including flutter (aeroelastic), aircraft and test engine handling, and structural limits;• Design and development of a number of experimental aircraft equipment;• Interfacing with a multi-national and multi-organisational joint flight trials and design team.I worked closely with the engineering design team and test pilots to ensure safe execution of this complex programme. As part of the flight test risk reduction activity, I led a team to develop a pilot-in-the-loop flight simulator, which replicated the predicted flight characteristic of the test aircraft using mathematical modelling of the aircraft aerodynamics. This simulator was used to vastly reduce the duration of the test programme by the use of real-time in-flight model matching methods. Show less
