Bio
Rob M.
I have worked continuously with Roald through 2½ years of Game Server hosting. He solely provided expert coding language skills to develop a massive online gaming network. Roald excels in Objective C, C++ and C# coding language for developing software. He has worked along side me for a long time, always showing exceedingly capable imaginative skills and performing multiple huge fixes to bugged/broken code that on most occasions, couldn't even be solved by large teams of developers on other projects at the time. His personable skills are great, he's witty and humorous, with a great likeable personality - yet get's the job done with great professionalism. During Roalds time with Synergy Game Servers, he not only provided fantastic development skills, he managed a large community of players and staff, prioritised his own work load, worked off his own initiative, developed the websites in HTML/Javascript/PHP/CSS. There was never really a set time for Roald to work, but he would work constantly, coding and providing technical support to players and staff. Roald literally exceeded my high expectations at the time. Roald is extremely trust worthy. I would never let a soul near my work - it was too sensitive and meant too much to me. Roald is the only person that I could give full control over our servers, the content, the code, everything. You're only allowed to tick 3 boxes for the Top Attributes, but honestly, Roald ticks every box twice over. I would more than happily work with Roald again - and anyone else that does, should be considered very lucky.

PHP Programmer
-
Jun 2012 - Oct 2014
Programmer working primarily with PHP and Javascript. The job focusses around the development of the company's online planning application "MijnRooster" a.k.a. as plan2work. The application has been under development for quite some time and has been worked on by many developers before me, therefore I regularly work on code unfamiliar to me. Bug fixing, development of features and helping with support issues are part of the daily routine. MijnRooster also has it's own API, a RESTful/JSON webservice made in PHP. The T&A (time and attendance) 'server' application for MijnRooster is in Java. Included in the job is also the management of the company's servers. MijnRooster runs on several Linux servers, divided in web and database servers. These servers need monitoring and tweaking, in order to provide the best availability and performance we can provide. Software used for the servers include but are not limited to: Apache, MySQL, cron, bind, csf, htop, rsyslogd, NewRelic and Subversion (code management). Bash is widely used for code management and backup of databases. Show less

Lead Programmer (C/C++)
-
Sep 2009 - Nov 2010
Lead programmer for a massive community of online gamers using advanced open-source (C++) emulation programs as basis improving it as we went to provide smooth, clean, bug-free gaming to over 75,000 players per week consisting of 97,000 gamer accounts. This position required that I worked remotely either from home or using a laptop for hours on end to fix bugs and glitches, implementing features to prevent users exploiting bugs/glitches, release new features and keep the database server and website running. This position also provided a management position allowing me to solve several HR problems between players, players and staff and within the staff itself. Show less

C++ Developer
-
Sep 2007 - Oct 2009
Started as a trainee working with old emulation software using the GameMonkey scripting language with a flat-file database. Learning fast I soon worked my way up eventually moving the game servers over to C++-based open-source emulation software using MySQL databases. I eventually decided it was time to move on and quit, the game servers were shut down short after. This position was voluntary and unpaid. Lead developer for a massive community of online gamers using advanced open-source (C++) emulation programs as basis improving it as we went. This position required that I worked remotely either from home or using a laptop for hours on end to fix bugs and glitches, implementing features to prevent users exploiting bugs/glitches, release new features and keep the database server and website running. My flexibility, position, standing and reputation within the community also allowed me and sometimes forced me to assume the role of other staff members and perform their tasks as necessary whether they were HR or development related. Servers were shut down soon after my joining due to financial difficulties. Show less
