  Ritu did her masters in Sociology also from the University of Calcutta in 1996 ( with university rank). She received an UGC NET JRF and joined The Centre for Studies in Social Sciences, Calcutta as a PhD Research Fellow. She completed her PhD while teaching in the Department of Sociology at Mahishadal Girls’ College. She joined the West Bengal State University, Department of Sociology after submitting her dissertation. Ritu worked for an India Government AIDS project covering the different red-light areas of Kolkata. She also has a voluntary association with an NGO working with the children of the sex-workers. Her college teaching enriched her experiences of pedagogic practices in Sociology in non-metropolitan settings. This was followed by university teaching. She acts as a visiting faculty in the Women’s Study institutions at the Jadavpur University and the University of Calcutta. She has delivered many lectures at a number of Universities and Research Institutes and presented papers in national and international talks, seminars and conferences. Ritu has articles published in journals and edited books. Currently, she is supervising five PhD dissertations and working on two book projects. Show less
