Engman Research Fellow

Jan 2013 - May 2015
I worked in the Bioengineering Lab at Harvey Mudd College, run by Professor Elizabeth Orwin, Dean of the Department of Engineering. My main focus was the Brain Patch Project in which we engineered a collagen gel matrix that contained different substances and stem cells to regulate the wound area after traumatic brain injury. In order to test the efficacy of this treatment we created a test set up that involved culturing astrocytes, wounding them and then quantifying their response. Specifically I have worked on- Exploring the antibacterial properties of chitosan and chitosan derivatives- Analyzing the release of substances from collagen gels using spectrophotometry- Quantifying the cytokine profiles of wounded (scratched) astrocytes Show less
