Gillian House is a financial company that offers funding to nursing homes providing them with working capital they need enabling them to cover the cost of individuals who are applying for government assistance (Medicaid) helping them stabilize and manage their cash flow. This allows the home to gain long term revenue through increased admissions and creates opportunity by allowing the home to redirect their working capital to focus on growth and gaining a competitive edge by centering on issues such as increasing number and quality of staff, upgrading and extending marketing startegy, improving food service and amenities, possible renovations or expanation of the facility, adding accommodations and upgrading furnishings, beds, medical equipment, etc.. As well as financial support, Gillian House also serves as a contracted service to review, verify and monitor the Medicaid applications for the nursing home. This service allows the social worker to devote more time and attention to the personal issues of their residents as well as allowing the business office manager to concentrate on more urgent, internal financial operations within the facility. This increase of time and attention given by the social workers, business office managers or other administrative staff will undoubtedly be parallel to the nursing homes seeing an overall increase in the number of satisfied residents and families that are feeling more assured that their loved ones are receiving the best quality of patient care available.Gillian House Financial Services is committed to being a benefit to the senior care industry by offering financial and service plans customized to the needs of nursing home corporations - partnering with them to offer assistance in this highly regulated, but ever-growing industry.

It was my job to keep an open relationship with our referral sources such as hospitals, doctor's offices, assisted living facilities and nursing homes. I also conducted a variety of in-services on the hospice benefit for different organizations and facilities. I would network with other businesses and organizations to help promote community awareness about hospice. Probably the most difficult, yet rewarding part of my job was meeting a patient and their family and signing them onto our services. Not only do you have to be very compassionate and knowledgeable about hospice, but also know the clinical qualifying criteria for diseases. Also, you have to have a strong understanding of the billing process with Medicare, Medicaid and private insurances.

My partner, Traci Majors and I began this business in September of '06. Mind Your Manners is an all-inclusive party planning business. Although we mainly conducted children's birthday parties, we also organized baby showers, anniversaries, bridal showers, seasonal parties and cookie and gingerbread decorating parties. We made all the arrangements for the celebration including invitations, party favors, cake, decorations, costumes, games, pictures, and catering if necessary. We worked closely with a local bakery to ensure each cake was custom designed to the child and their party theme. Traci and I were responsible for our own bookkeeping, marketing and inventory. We also taught children and teen etiquette weekly, as well as corporate/business etiquette. After building a successful business, we sold the company for a profit just over a year later.

It was my job to maintain relations with our referral sources such as doctor's offices, skilled units, churches and hospitals. I worked closely with the residents planning events and parties. I coordinated the food and entertainment for most of the events. I visited our residents who were in hospitals or in skilled units. It was a great joy to get to know the residents and their families and be a part of this time of their lives. I greeted clients and answered a multi-line phone system. I kept a running log of clients and lawyers in and out of the office. I organized conferences and depositions, made travel arrangements for lawyers as well as clients and filing of legal documents and other minor secretarial work and personal errands for the firm.
