After 25 years at Erasmus MC in Rotterdam, I am starting a new chapter as virologist at Wageningen Bioveterinary Research in Lelystad (https://www.wur.nl/en/Research-Results/Research-Institutes/Bioveterinary-Research.htm). WBVR collaborates with public and private partners to safeguard animal and public health through prevention, eradication and control of animal diseases. In my new position I will be involved both in statutory tasks of the institute and in contract research, mostly focusing on respiratory virus infections of veterinary and human relevance. At the same time, I will remain affiliated with Erasmus MC for one day a week, and continue to support my research group in studies focusing on the immunopathogenesis of morbilliviruses, pneumoviruses and coronaviruses. In addition, I aim to support existing and new collaborations between WBVR and Erasmus MC. Show less

PhD study (immunotoxicology / virology). PhD thesis: "Impaired immunity in seals exposed to bioaccumulated environmental contaminants" Erasmus University Rotterdam, 23-06-1995. Thesis supervisors: Prof. A.D.M.E. Osterhaus and Prof. J.G. Vos. This thesis resulted from a collaborative immunotoxicological study carried out by the Seal Rehabilitation and Research Centre in Pieterburen, the National Institute of Public Health and the Environment in Bilthoven, The Institute for Forestry and Nature Research in Den Burg and the Institute of Virology of the Erasmus University Rotterdam. The aim of the study was to evaluate the effects of persistent environmental contaminants on immune function in seals. The laboratory work was performed at the Laboratory for Immunobiology at the RIVM in Bilthoven (1990-1993) and at the department of Virology of the Erasmus University in Rotterdam (1993-1995).
