I worked very closely with Rick over the course of his tenure at WSI. He is a QA leader with a history of delivering quality products in the face of short deadlines and limited resources. He led the team that was responsible for the QA of over 200 + mobile apps (each with a version for an iPhone, iPad and Android Phone). He was not only responsible for QA but also the configuration and delivery of all of those apps into the Google and Apple Stores. He has a track record of delivering on time and with quality. He is sharp and eager to dive into new challenges. As a manager, he is a great mentor and supports his staff at every opportunity while ensuring that quality work is being produced.
Simon Morton
Rick is a seasoned QA leader and project manager who is able to take on complex and challenging projects, put in place effective QA processes, and quickly deliver results. As a founding member of WSI's first mobile team, he was instrumental in establishing build, test, and commissioning procedures that would scale up to support almost 200 white-label apps on iPhone, iPad, and Android. He spearheaded a successful initiative to build a web portal allowing clients to configure and skin their own apps, which was a key enabler in scaling up the commissioning process. As a QA manager, Rick is a role model and mentor to his junior team members, helping them to hone their skills and advance in their careers. He is a true professional who works collaboratively and effectively across all functions and levels of an organization. It was a pleasure working with Rick and I would welcome the opportunity to do so again.

Director of Software Quality Assurance

Jan 2017 - Jan 2018
Hired to implement a well rounded Software QA process. Quickly became an intrigual part of the senior management team for the entire enterprise. In charge of all aspects of the SDLC from requirements gathering to release for over 10 client applications and backend systems. Initially in charge of a team of 9 QA Engineers with subject matter expertise in the auto rental and loaner fleet industry and increased the headcount by 7 career QA Engineers in less than 7 months in order to keep up with a very aggressive release schedule for multiple core products. Implemented a thorough test case management strategy where there was none. Worked with Project and Product managers to implement better processes all around for major and point releases. Worked closely with the Business Analysts and clients to root cause issues, plan thoughtful releases, and follow through to release to assure that client needs were always taken into account. Initiated two automation efforts for three different products utilizing a pre-selected offshore contractor and hired 2 Software Developers in Test to facilitate the creation of a solid automation framework. Automation work included a full smoke test of the Rental client app and a separate full API smoke test effort for a new client app initiative. Automation efforts are being expanded to a full regression suite for the core products. All automation was tied to Jenkins (CI) in order to tie all work to the automation strategy of tests to be launched per build, hourly, per day, etc. In charge of assuring PCI compliance in all aspects of testing. In a very short amount of time, was able to reduce the number of necessary point releases by 50% by assuring discipline in the SDLC and assuring that these only happened when absolutely necessary. In a very short amount of time, took a globally dispersed SQA team of 7 engineers from very little SQA process to being able to release software of high quality while meeting deadlines. The team was divided between Boston, Santiago, Chile, and Dublin, Ireland. The apps were delivered on Android, iOS, Windows and HTML5. Instituted and presented a company wide SQA process for mobile apps delivery to the Mobile Network Operators of the world. Worked within an Agile/Scrum development environment. Participated and represented SQA on all executive level meetings, including on-site with clients in South America and Canada. Began an automation process in which we used Java based scripts and Appium with the goal of transferring the bulk of the regression and performance test suites to full automation and to kick off test executions via continuous integration using Bamboo. Researched and implemented a Test Case Management tool, Zephyr for Jira, to help the whole development team become more organized and to give visibility into SQAs progress and efforts on all projects. Worked very closely with a very junior development team to help them understand SQA’s role in the software development process. Worked very closely with Project Management to make them slow down a bit and take SQA into account in all project-planning matters. Regularly participated in the RFP process, and the authoring of SOWs and CRs to make sure that QA was properly included and estimated. Participated in client workshops early on in projects to assure that we stuck to our white-label development model and to only customize software workflows when absolutely necessary. Traveled to South America and Canada for face-to-face client meetings. Utilized my Spanish fluency extensively on a daily basis to communicate with the Santiago team and to communicate with clients in South America. Interviewed potential development candidates and made recommendations for next steps. Show less
