During my year of training at NIS, Rick was my class teacher, supervisor and mentor. In the classroom he is extremely caring, competent, decisive, entrepreneurial, professional and hilarious. Honestly, I could not have asked for a better hands-on role model to observe and collaborate with. I vividly remember Rick utilising the last 10 minutes of each day to play games, tell jokes, riddles and chat with the class. Any school would be lucky to have him as Teacher/Principal! We remain close friends to this day.

I first worked at an English center teaching English to native children, using the PLS method. I also taught private lessons to high school students and adults. Upon moving to Tokyo, I was contracted to teach English in various elementary and junior high schools. I spent one year at Toda Higashi Elementary School in Toda City, Saitama. There I created and developed my own English curriculum to teach the children through song, games, and speaking activities.
