Rick at IPT has always been a pleasure to work with. We have been able to work together to target campaigns effectively and deliver. He is a great contact in the UK and is helpful in providing what is needed for each campaign. I look forward to working with Rick and IPT in the future as they continue to build a great service for their UK advertisers.

I worked with Rick for 25 years and together we built the UK's biggest Lifestyle Survey programme for consumer direct marketing. I can honestly say that I have never worked with anyone more professional or dedicated. His attention to detail, managing of suppliers and monitoring of results are superb. His sense of humour helps!

What a culture change this job was. From the cut and thrust of overnight deadlines in Central London my world slowed to a more sedate routine of monthly schedules in suburban Dartford. I was responsible for the collection and processing of adverts, both black and white and colour, to appear in trade journals and card packs. I would also have to conduct typesetting passes to ensure that everything was in place before the publications went to press. I was assigned to two established publications Roofing, Cladding and Insulation and Public Service & Local Government (PSLG) or P'Slug as we used to call it. I was also involved in the production of a new publication for GPs called Medical Products. Okay, they weren't Playboy or Cosmopolitan but I learned a hell of a lot about another part of the advertising and publishing industry. Then I was headhunted to join RJ Dodd Publishing. Alright, that wasn't strictly true, some one I knew and got on well with had moved there and mentioned my name! Show less

The late seventies and early eighties were tough times in the advertising industry, so much so that in 1983 Whites Recruitment was merged with another recruitment agency called Bull, Holmes Bartlett to become White’s Bull Holmes. A number of redundancies meant that I was thrust into the role of Production Manager where I was responsible for traffic of adverts and production of printed literature. I would also help out with producing simple border artwork for recruitment adverts. Studio & Production Assistant

When I left school at 17 I knew what I didn’t want to do but I didn’t know what I did want to do. After playing football and cricket over the park with mates for a couple of weeks they started work in banks and insurance companies. That’s what I didn’t want to do, an in tray and an out tray. The Monday morning of their first day at work my Mum said I’d better find myself a job so I traipsed up to the Job Centre and spotted an advert for a Studio & Production Trainee for White’s Recruitment, an advertising agency in Fleet Street. White’s Recruitment (Formerly RF White & Son Ltd) was formed in 1800 and I was told that it was the UK’s oldest advertising agency. Interesting Information http://www.hatads.org.uk/hat/newsitem.php?A=138&C=22 http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/nra/onlinelists/GB0380%20RFW.pdf http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_White_(1775%E2%80%931820) An interview on the Tuesday was followed by a second on the Friday and at 9:30am the next Monday I started my first job. White’s Recruitment paid me the princely annual wage of £1,800! I wasn’t paid much but I learned so much about advertising, photo-typesetting, hot metal setting, line blocks, schedules, printing and a whole bunch more. Looking back I consider this to be my ‘apprenticeship. Show less
