I have a ridiculous relationship with golf. It's like being in love with a bad woman. She hurts you but you keep coming back for more. Golf has taken vast amounts of my time and money over the years. So, I am thankful to USgolfTV for the opportunity to take a little back. As a regular contributor, I researched and wrote about new equipment, golf related media, and travel. It was great fun. I have a ridiculous relationship with golf. Part of me hesitates to mention eKizo in this profile because ultimately it failed as a business. Yet, I learned so much about the powerful potential and hidden perils of e-commerce that I count it a great success. eKizo marketed two products lines; Kona coffee and teeth whitener (the irony is accidental). I worked out the distribution channels as well as our marketing approach, while my partner focused on technology. In the end, our efforts were held up by companies that controlled ways we connected to the vast internet audiences we wanted to reach. Their fees were too large. This experience has made me so excited about the emergence of social media platforms and the "open" opportunities for smart marketing. Show less

In late 1999, I was focused on merging contracting with real estate development. One of my efforts became a real turning point in my career. I began writing, designing and publishing a monthly newsletter for homeowners and real estate investors in the Metro Atlanta market ColeResidential Report was focused on identifying market trends, investment strategies and local public policy issues. The newsletter was so well received, I began creating marketing materials in a variety of contexts. In late 1999, I was focused on merging contracting with real estate development. I come from a family that has been in real estate, building and property management for generations. When I started my first business, ColeResidential in 1989, contracting seemed like a natural extension of what I'd learned growing up. Initially, Cole Residential carved out a niche as a vendor to apartment and condominium complexes. Later we evolved into a full service residential general contractor, focusing on remodeling and whole-house renovations for homeowners and investors. As owner, I was responsible for marketing, sales, hiring, design, project management and, when needed, hammering nails and laying tile. No aspect of the business was beyond my purview. I believed then, and still believe, that customer relations and service is the beating heart of business success. At its essence, all business is about serving the needs of others. ColeResidential put our client relationships first and that led to satisfying work and increased opportunities. Show less
