While I was head of litigation at AOL, Rick and I worked together on a complicated VAT-related issue arising from the divestiture of a number of AOL's assets in Europe. During this long and complicated matter, I was impressed by Rick's grasp of the issues, as well as how ably he identified the larger potential implications for the company. He worked with me, our GC and the Deputy GC to resolve this critical issue in a very satisfactory way for the company. In doing so, I was taken with his ability to analyze a difficult legal concept from a very different regime and convey it to American lawyers. I think that this ability has served him very well as he deals with legal issues straddling many different jurisdictions. In sum, I think Rick is a superb attorney and a good friend with whom I was very fortunate to work and in whom I have the utmost confidence. I think any company or client would be very lucky to have his services.
