Towards the end of my time with the company I worked closely with the Quality Control inspectors - gaining insight into their role, learning about the processes and procedures in Welding inspection as well as assisting in their daily tasks. This has allowed me to gain an insight and understanding of the Welding inspector role. Tasks I have covered include checking of specifications and drawings, validating certification of calibration, checking material and consumable certification, checking the welding equipment, checking accurate level and method of pre-heat applied prior to tack welding. I also know the importance of carrying out the visual inspections of the welding joint and monitoring requirement after welding and how to identify repairs from assessment of visual or reports.
