Richard has always and will always be the biggest source of inspiration to me in my teaching career. His innovation to give all his students an up to date experience in the classroom, concentrating on the values they need to be the best to help on their career pathways.

Richard Eno was a fantastic manager who deeply cared for his team and students. The students found his passion and knowledge of film inspirational and he is always very supportive towards every student’s needs. His results were fantastic and ex-students fondly recall their experiences of being taught by Richard. As a manager Richard was hugely supportive and a breath of fresh air. Staff always felt Richard had the interests and feeling at the heart of his decisions. He led the team by example and was an excellent role model for the staff. I will always remember the humour Richard brought to the staff and the students.

I have had a vibrant career at Totton College. I have been a Head of Department, a Head of Faculty and a Curriculum Lead and taught the following subjects along the way: A Levels in Media and Film; BTEC Extended Diploma in Creative Media Production (three different strands of TV & Film; Journalism; Video Game Development); Extended Project Qualification; ABC Award in Journalism; Foundation Degree Art, as well as Level 2 BTEC Media Production. As an experienced personal tutor I have written an extensive amount of UCAS references and guided hundreds of students through the university application process. As a teacher I have taught a variety of Media related subjects and have also taught experimental film at Foundation Degree Art. My main subject has always been Film Studies, something I remain committed to. In the last three years I have achieved Grade 1 ALPS for A Level Film Studies, where 100% of my students increased their Minimum Target Grade by at least 2 grades. I have sustained ALPS 1 – 3 for over three years now. This was in part achieved through a combination of increased ‘Assessment for Learning’ techniques and the ‘Stretch and Challenge’ of higher-level teaching. It has been important for me to stay abreast of changing attitudes in practical pedagogy and as such, I have championed the use of higher level questioning, active learning and a blended learning approach where ‘flipped learning’ has taken a priority. This has seen me make more of a focus on using Moodle (VLE) to create an interactive area where students can have their classroom experience enhanced with podcasts, videos and online material. As a coach I have worked with staff to improve their performance as a teacher and a manager. This has been in the form of regular 1:1s, group discussions as well as delivering workshops on subjects such as AfL, Socratic Questioning and working with new technologies. I left Totton College in August 2018. Show less
