I joined the hospital’s Biomedical Specialist team of professional and skilled technicians to complete a 6 week attachment as part of my training. Through the 6 weeks , I run various clinical tests on patients around the following fields: ✅Hematology: Testing for Fbc(Full blood count), Hb test, Fbs/Rbs ( Full blood sugar/ Random blood sugar),G6PD( Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase), Peripheral blood film comment, ABO and Rh blood grouping, ESR,Coagulation profile, Hb electrophoresis, ✅Parasitology: Blood for Microfilaria(Bf for Mps) ✅Serology: HBsAg testing, HCV testing,HIV testing,VDRL testing, hepatitis B profile, WIDAL , Serum pregnancy test. ✅Biochemistry: Glucose tests( FBG,RBG, 2Hr post prandial, OGTT, HBAIc( Glycation test)). Biochemical profiles( Lipid profile ,Liver function test, Bilirubins( total and direct ). Renal function test( Blood Nitrogen, Electrolytes,Urea, Creatinine , Uric Acid, eGFR,Mg, phosphorus, Zn Cardiac markers( Troponin T, Troponin I, CK-MB, LDH. ✅Hormonal Assay: Thyroid Function test , FSH, LH, TSH, E2, Progesterone, Testosterone, Prolactin, PSA. ✅Microbiology: Urine R/E, Urine protein and Glucose, Stool R/E, Fecal Occult Blood Test, Semen analysis, Urine pregnancy test, AFB stain for Sputum and CSF, Urine C/S, Sputum C/S, Blood C/S, CSF Examination and C/S, Acetic Fluid C/S, Wound C/S. ✅Microscopy: preparing specimens on slides to be viewed under the microscope. Viewing malaria parasites, sickle cell status , Urine constituents. ✅Sample collection: taking blood samples from patients to be tested, testing blood from the blood bank on various parameters.
