I had the privilege to work with Richard at two companies (Cimpress and Agero) and as such has seen him grow as a HiPo individual contributor to a HiPo business leader. His range of expertise is vast - capital allocation, strategy, M&A valuation and rationalization but also data analytics, process/workflow/org design optimization, defining and managing to stretch OKRs, collaborating with sales, LoB leaders, and executive management; and now leading and developing people. Let's just call him what he is - a rare "purple unicorn" who can do anything and do it extremely well. He has unlimited potential. Richard is a data driven executive. He speaks truth to power with hard data backup and yet does it constructively to continuously optimize his team and our business. He obsesses with process in a good way - knowing that optimizing the process for how we work is as important as the work itself to achieve scale results. Richard is an early adopter of tools and processes that drive step improvements in productivity, collaboration, and democratization of information. And his most potent skill - outstanding communication acumen. He has the innate ability to tackle VERY complex topics and make them understandable to stakeholders throughout the organization and at all levels. It has been a joy to watch him stretch and grow and see where he takes his career. The sky is the limit.

Richard and I worked together on a technology team at Cimpress. Richard was the product manager and I was the tech lead for the design experience web app we were building. Richard came from corporate, and I was a bit concerned he would slow us down by saddling us with process and performance measurement, but it soon became clear Richard was going to make us a better team. His background in strategy was key to pointing us in the right direction. He was extremely focused on finding our product-market fit to bring direction to our extensive feature backlog. Unique from other PMs I have worked with, Richard always pushed our team and other teams to do what was right rather than what was easy. He earned the respect of everyone he worked with and increased our team’s credibility even without a technical background. He picked things up quickly and didn’t mind getting his hands dirty but most importantly his passion and collaborative nature motivated us to build a better product. Outside of work Richard was always up for a ping pong game, a few after work drinks, or a climbing session at the rock gym. If you are looking for a product manager, you need Richard.

Shaped and managed the enterprise-wide capital allocation and strategic planning process which involved vetting strategic plans and arriving at financial contracts with business leads. Led executive-level strategic planning meetings and facilitated meetings with our valuation committee of the supervisory board. I am most proud of the work I did to help define our capital allocation methodology which tied long term value creation to short term business goals and financials. It was challenging and exciting helping our business and finance leads accept and feel empowered by this new business management framework. Early in this role I managed the valuation and assisted with due diligence activities for the acquisition of a EUR 200M revenue generating online print company in Germany. Show less
