At Taskforce Kiwi we understand that just because you take off a uniform, doesn't mean that you stop serving. TFK consists of defence and emergency services veterans, and members of the wider community, with the skills, experience, motivation and grit to help communities recover from natural disasters. We're not first responders, instead working alongside existing emergency management agencies and communities, providing skilled volunteer resources to kickstart recovery and help fellow Kiwis on their worst day. Leading a team of 20, responsible for the fire and emergency management program covering 90,000 hectares of public land, covering preparedness, response and recovery. With a focus on the delivery of organisational efficiencies, I enabled high performance in the lead up to the 2019-20 ‘Black Summer’ bushfires in Australia, planning and implementing 412 staff days of operational training and exercises for my team of 20 firefighters. I then safely managed 37 separate operational deployments, totalling 595 individual response days, which required internal and external stakeholder management, staff mobilisation, financial oversight, and providing material support, all while undertaking my own specialist response roles in the air and on the ground. As a Fire and Emergency Program Manager with Forest Fire Management Victoria, I undertook annual bushfire risk reduction operations. In the lead up to the 2019 season alone I managed vegetation management across 370 hectares, 120km of roadside vegetation clearance, and 1,500 hectares of planned burning. Chief Pilot, Parks Victoria Remotely Piloted Air Systems (RPAS) Program, overseeing emergency and land management flight operations across the State of Victoria. Show less

Manager, Aviation Services Unit As the manager of the Aviation Services Unit, I managed AUD$20 million worth of emergency management aircraft contracts and led the procurement process for aviation fire retardant and Large Air Tanker airbases for Victoria. Working collaboratively with multiple agencies and service providers, I ensured all aircraft were successfully contracted, and sufficient aerial fire retardant for the upcoming fire season was procured on budget. Manager, Workforce Coordination Team Identified wastage and areas for significant improvement, initiated and led the redesign of the engagement, recruitment and training program for Melbourne based emergency management staff. This resulted in business stages being completed three months ahead of previous years, with over 500 staff being available earlier for a greater number of events and an overall increase in staff recruited and roles filled. Appointed regional duty officer for the Melbourne Region within a month of joining the department, liaising with key stakeholders and staff to ensure that resource requests could be met. As a result a variety of staff resources were dispatched state wide, often at short notice, over the planned burning program and fire danger period. Managing the end to end deployment process, from initial deployment planning, to staff activation and travel, operational activity, fatigue management, demobilisation and post-deployment review. A qualified General Fire Fighter, deploying in a surge capacity to regional areas to assist with the planned burn program and wildfire response activities, whilst balancing business as usual tasks. As safety officer led the process for the dissemination of relevant safety warnings and updates to Regional Incident Support staff and liaised with key stakeholders on a number of highly sensitive and potentially disruptive safety issues. These issues were resolved and the relevant programs were able to continue with minimal interruption. Show less
