I manage the HS2 Education Programme, which aims to inspire young people to take an interest in STEM subjects and careers, through a range of activities, including hands-on workshops, large careers events, office visits and work experience. The Education Programme showcases the diversity of people and roles in the transport infrastructure sector and helps young people from groups traditionally under-represented in the sector to see how their skills could be applied in jobs that they may not have considered. As Education Manager, within the Skills, Employment and Education team, my role is strategic, designing and managing programmes which are delivered by contractors and/or volunteer Education Ambassadors from within the business. My responsibilities include: -Project managing contractors who are delivering STEM workshops and events. -Developing relationships with regional and national stakeholders to ensure we are delivering to schools with the most need. -Representing HS2 on cross-sector and industry bodies to facilitate a collaborative, joined up approach to STEM engagement. -Supporting supply chain companies in their school engagement work. -Promotion of our network of volunteer Education Ambassadors, through internal comms articles and speaking at internal events. -Delivery of training sessions, to help Education Ambassadors to prepare for volunteering. -Speaking at conferences and events to inform teachers, careers leads and other influencers of HS2's approach to Skills, Employment and Education. -Ensuring that accurate data is recorded and evaluation carried out so that the impact and return on investment can be measured. -In the current crisis I am working to deliver more of our programme online, for example through virtual work experience placements, so that young people still have access to career development opportunities. I have developed and delivered training sessions for teachers, youth workers and leaders of uniformed groups focusing on innovation approaches to STEM teaching that will inspire young people. I co-ordinate the museum's 'Meet The Expert' and 'Cafe Scientifique' programmes, giving STEM professionals a chance to talk to young people about their careers and research. Show less
