I was the construction supervisor at the EINK production facility recently built in the Springfield, Ma area. For 3 years as we built this state of the art facility and as it grew from 6 employees to over 100, I was very impressed with the way Richard led a team of engineers and coating technicians to developed the production process. The combination of his high technical skills and ability to use the vast experiances of the on line technicians was something that truley was admired and respected by everyone at the faclity.

Accomplishments during my tenure at E Ink: - 11 US patents granted, with (at present) 5 additional pending or allowed. Patents span many aspects of the electroactive layer (EAL), including design of the ink colloidal dispersion, adhesive and binder composition, and methods of preparation. - Inventor of image stability composition that enabled the first use of electrophoretic inks in TFT displays. Invention is practiced in all E Ink electrophoretic ink systems. - Responsible for… Show more Accomplishments during my tenure at E Ink: - 11 US patents granted, with (at present) 5 additional pending or allowed. Invention is practiced in all E Ink electrophoretic ink systems. - Responsible for material & process development that led to qualification of coating and lamination processes for 3 generations of EAL/FPL film production processes. - Led development and process engineering teams, successes included development the first ink capsule coating operation in the US (with then partner Polaroid), and then development of the internal EAL manufacturing systems used to produce all current EAL product from 2009 forward. - Coating and lamination process innovations for 2nd generation EAL platform enabled 3.5x increase in EAL manufacturing capacity in 2010. - Process innovations for 3rd generation EAL will enable in 2013 an additional 2x increase in process capacity with a more complicated EAL structure. Managed 6 scientists & engineers responsible for all electroactive layer (EAL) and front-plane laminate (FPL) film development projects, including: - optical front electrode, barrier, and release substrate development; - coating and functional materials development; - design & optimization of multiple layer electroactive film structures; - coating formulation optimization & process design of chemical mix operations; - development of film manufacturing coating & lamination processes on pilot and production scale equipment; - development of roll-to-sheet conversion & condition manufacturing processes. This team was involved in all aspects of the development stage gate process through transfer of processes to operations.
