I worked with Richard at the Attorney General's office where he was an outstanding employee. Richard was the "go to" guy when a project needed to be completed quickly and accurately. Of all the young lawyers, he clearly stood out as one of the best!! Since going into private practice, Richard has represented the State on several matters and done an outstanding job!

      Mr. Trewhella focuses his practice on successfully defending clients in all ranges of labor and employment matters, including claims for gender discrimination, sexual harassment, race discrimination, and national origin discrimination under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964; claims under the Equal Pay Act; claims for racial discrimination under 42 U.S.C. § 1981; claims for alleged civil rights violations under 42 U.S.C. § 1983; claims and investigations brought pursuant to the Fair Labor Standards Act, as well as claims under the Pregnancy Discrimination Act; the Family and Medical Leave Act; the Americans with Disabilities Act, and the Age Discrimination in Employment Act. Mr. Trewhella also routinely advises employers in several industries during EEOC, Department of Labor, and OSHA investigations. While serving as Assistant Attorney General for the State of Alabama, Mr. Trewhella worked under the Honorable William H. Pryor, Jr. (now Circuit Judge for the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals) and represented numerous state officials, including the Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General, State Treasurer, Presiding Judge of the Alabama Court of Civil Appeals, and Chief Justice of the Alabama Supreme Court against a multitude of constitutional and civil rights claims. After entering private practice in 2002, Alabama's last three Attorneys General have appointed Mr. Trewhella as a Special Deputy Attorney General to represent state officials and agencies , including the Alabama Department of Youth Services, Department of Corrections, Department of Mental Health, Department of Human Resources, Alabama Alcohol Beverage Control (ABC) Board, Department of Transportation, and Department of Corrections in civil litigation in state and federal courts. From 2009 - 2010, Mr. Trewhella served as special counsel for the Alabama Judicial Inquiry Commission to investigate and prosecute judicial misconduct. Show less
