    • Agency Clerk
      • Nov 2004 - Present

I successfully run the Agency Clerk’s Office for the nation’s third largest Medicaid agency, managing a staff of five employees and processing 1,200 – 1,400 hearing requests and 3,000 – 4,000 final orders each year. Since my tenure as Agency Clerk began, I have drafted over 3,500 final orders, rendered over 50,000 final orders, and reviewed and processed over 15,000 hearing requests. I have led the Agency’s efforts to put all final orders into an electronic database, which has been made available to the public through the Agency’s website, as well as helped to create an electronic filing system for the Agency Clerk’s office that is accessible through the Agency’s Internet website; and made the Agency Clerk’s Office into a fully paperless office by leveraging existing Agency technology. • Jul 2002 - Nov 2004

I was the lead prosecutor for the Board of Osteopathic Medicine and the Board of Psychology. I determined the legal sufficiency of complaints and successfully resolved disciplinary cases. My work with the Board of Osteopathic Medicine helped it to achieve number one disciplinary rankings in 2002, 2003 and 2004 by the Federation of State Medical Boards for boards with 2,000 to 15,000 physicians practicing in-state, and a ranking as one of the top five boards overall in the nation during those same years. In addition, I helped to reduce the caseloads of both boards by approximately 50 percent. Show less

      • Oct 2001 - Jun 2002

I was assigned to the Practitioner Regulation section of the Agency that was comprised of over 40 attorneys who handled disciplinary cases against licensed health care professionals. My responsibilities included helping clear out a backlog of older cases against medical doctors. I reviewed case files and made recommendations as to whether a case should be prosecuted or closed. I also assisted with settling cases or taking them to an administrative hearing, if necessary. In February of 2002, I was appointed lead prosecutor for the Board of Osteopathic Medicine, and became responsible for handling all of their cases from beginning to end. I reviewed all new case files that came to me from either Consumer Services or one of the eleven investigative field offices in the state, arranged for expert review of files, made recommendations as to how to proceed with a case, presented cases to the Probable Cause Panel for closing or for a finding of probable cause, settled cases or took them to administrative hearings, and presented disciplinary cases to the Board of Osteopathic Medicine for final disposition. I drafted pleadings and documents, took depositions, participated in administrative hearings, and conducted legal research on a variety of issues. Show less

I also participated in community outreach, traveling to senior citizen centers in Liberty, Calhoun, and Jackson Counties to answer legal questions for elderly people, and enrolling Gadsden County families in the KidCare program. In addition, I continued assisting with the TEAMCHILD project, helping several juvenile clients with various legal issues. Show less

    • Legal Assistant
      • Sep 1999 - Oct 2000

I assisted the managing attorney of the office by drafting various pleadings and memoranda of law. I also worked on the TEAMCHILD project, which was funded by the Florida Bar Foundation for the purpose of helping juveniles who were facing criminal charges with various needs, such as housing, education, and social assistance, so that they might receive a lesser punishment and so that their chances of recidivism might be reduced. Additionally, I interviewed clients and witnesses and performed legal research on a variety of issues. Show less
