I had the pleasure of working with Richie for 2 years when he was Operations Director of Navy Recruiting. Under his direction, and through his strategic vision, there was rapid and sustained improvement in organisational performance. This ranged from an overall 20% upturn in volume of candidates being recruited to a 120% increase in the most pressing priority area. Notably his success was achieved in a complex environment, with constrained resource, and during a period when the business area faced enormous scrutiny from the highest levels of Defence and Government. Richie demonstrated he can cope with any challenge, always with agility and humour, whilst inspiring and supporting the people and teams around him. He is a natural relationship builder, trusted advisor and caring leader who also has the grit to consistently deliver results. I would have him as first pick on my team again anytime in the future.

I had the chance to work with Richard at the Ministry of Defence. It was a real pleasure working with him and a great learning experience in terms of his extensive knowledge and strategic vision. He is an excellent relationship builder. He is inclusive, engaging and an expert at connecting the right people together. His positive outlook and attitude were key in negotiations to set demanding targets and then deliver best outcomes. Notably, this was in a particularly challenging business environment, with multiple stakeholders, varying objectives and slow pace of change. Richard’s leadership, drive and interpersonal skills were a major part of a successful intervention programme.
