During my time teaching at the University of Tokyo, I have been fortunate to teach at Hongo and Kashiwa campuses. The university runs its Special English Programmes various programmes through Athénée Français and other outside institutions. Students with a wide range of specialities and proficiency participate in lessons focussing mainly on conversation, grammar, presentations or a combination of all three depending on the department and the abilities of the class. Athénée Français has a history of over one-hundred years of education. Although its primary focus is instruction in French, English is a significant part of its student base. It offers three-month courses from beginner to advanced in conversation, business, grammar, TOEIC. Ministry of Intelligence Through Athénée Français I have had the privilege of teaching defence attachés working in the Ministry of Intelligence. The goal is to develop skills to explain the role of attachés, and Japan's perspective of world events. Attachés working directly with or closely with the UK, usually request guidance in their study of British historical events and national character. The University of Tokyo I regularly work in The University of Tokyo's Special English Programme. The programme runs twice a year for nine weeks in winter and spring, and focuses mostly on listening and speaking. Topics vary by level -- intermediate students tackle social subjects, whereas advanced students generally focus more on academic and classroom discourse. Shimizu Shimizu is an international construction company in Tokyo. Since 2015, the company has run English programmes through Athénée Français. The goal of the course varies by the students' proficiency and the specifics requested by the class. Some classes wish to develop TOEIC listening and vocabulary skills, while some wish to develop fluency and communication skills for overseas projects.
