Terry Shepherd
I've had the pleasure and opportunity to work closely with Cody over the last year and a half and I've developed a sincere appreciation for his incredible coding skills, problem solving abilities, and his nearly unsurpassed ability to communicate and document. I watched his leadership and communication skills shine late last year when our manager was tasked with running a short-term project team and Cody was asked to step up and manage half of our current team for him. Cody was able to take the additional responsibility, do it well, and still keep up his day-to-day tasks. It was but a few months later he was asked to be part of a small team to take over a project which was composed of a stack of technologies which he had very little experience with. It was amazing to see Cody metaphorically 'take-the-bull-by-the-horns', quickly come up to speed in half a dozen different technologies, and not only continue developing the application, but to take it to new heights to the point of getting the attention of several directors in our organization. Bottom line, Cody has been an incredible asset to our team and organization and any company would be hard-pressed to find a better engineer.

Full Stack Engineer
-
Apr 2016 - Feb 2017
Part of a small, agile team that delivered a release dashboard, providing real-time insights into the development status for code releases for the Macy's technology organization. This application aggregated data across multiple tools, providing a simplified view of the health of a release from development stories, defects, to test results.● Utilized a pair-programming development methodology to enable myself and a remote development partner to increase the release cadence from 1-2 features per quarter to 2-4 features per two-week iteration, while additionally increasing the breadth of our knowledge across the complete system in the process.● Implementation of performance improvements across the technology stack, reducing load times of key application views from 60-90 seconds to less than 5 seconds.● Actively sought out customers, from senior management to individual engineers, and developed functionality to improve their workflow. Focused on presenting data succinctly and accurately so decision makers have the correct information to lead the business.● Created a CI pipeline to improve quality and reduce the time to release from 8-12 hours to 5-8 minutes.● Successfully worked in a satellite office scenario. Able to establish key relationships with customers and partners virtually.● Technologies used include JavaScript, jQuery, SCSS, Scala, Spring, jOOQ, Groovy, and MySQL. Show less
