Dr. Barbara Bartels

It is my pleasure to write this recommendation for my colleague and friend. I had the pleasure of working with Richard for over a decade at Brandman University/UMass Global. Richard is an exemplary leader and truly leads with his heart! Richard leads with integrity, trust and character - three of the most important traits in leadership. Richard is also humble, empathetic and kind. Put these traits together and it is easy to understand why he receives such rave reviews from his direct reports. I would highly recommend Richard!

I have had the pleasure of having Richard on my team for over ten years. Richard is a passionate, dynamic leader who inspires those around him. He is an exceptional manager with keen organizational skills. He is engaging as a leader and facilitator. Richard is always willing to take time to help his colleagues as he is focused on success for all. He is dedicated to helping others and in his role as campus director he always went the extra mile supporting students, staff, colleagues and members of his community. Richard is smart and focused on the win win. I highly recommend him.

    • Sr. Academic Advisor
      • Mar 2012 - May 2015

Academic advising is an educational process that, by intention and design, facilitates students’ understanding of the meaning and purpose of higher education and fosters their intellectual and personal development toward academic success and lifelong learning. (NACADA, 2004)At Brandman University, academic advising provides students with the opportunity to build a relationship with their advisor for the purpose of gaining assistance in planning their educational career, in learning the skills needed for academic success, and in learning how to access the variety of resources and services available to them on the Brandman University campus and the Chapman University System.Academic advising is a collaborative educational process whereby students and their advisors are partners in meeting the essential learning outcomes, ensuring student academic success, and outlining the steps for achievement of the students’ personal, academic, and career goals. This advisor/student partnership requires participation and involvement of both the advisor and the student as it is built over the student’s entire educational experience at the university. Both the student and the advisor have clear responsibilities for ensuring the advising partnership is successful. Show less

From 1998 to 2010, I pastored Grace Missionary Baptist of Tulare California. Pastoring was not an occupation for me but a calling. As the leader of the church, I grew spiritually and learned how the human touch can motivate and move mountains in the lives of others. My wife and I are still ministering in our community and wherever the Lord leads us. Serving others Biblically is one of the greatest feelings one can have. I count it a blessing to be one of God's servants. From 1998 to 2010, I pastored Grace Missionary Baptist of Tulare California. Pastoring was not an occupation for me but a calling. My first business I owned and operated was a precision machine shop when I was a mere 16 years of age. The memory of going down to Van Nuys city offices to apply for my business license still lingers in my mind. I made prototype precision parts for the aerospace industry using a Hardinge Chucker Lathe & Tree Milling machine which I borrowed the money from my grandfather to purchase. These precision parts were for companies such as Loral and Wavecom out of Van Nuys California. I continued making prototype parts off and on for 10+ years. Show less
