Dave Farley
Richard is the kind of person you want on your team. He is a very good engineer, enjoys technical problem solving and is inventive and flexible in how he approaches them. More than all of that though, is that he is a an effective, pragmatic driving force and is that unusual person who can amplify their own impact by making a team better. He can get change done. Richard can cut through the extraneous detail and get to the heart of a problem and focus on what needs to be done. I started working with him some time ago and I have seen him motivate and drive change in his organization like few other people. He drives people to do better than they thought they could, not with threats and intimidation but through humour and real leadership. He doesn't have to be the person with all of the answers to make progress. He can take good ideas from other people and get the team working together to implement them, sharing together, in the successes and setbacks along the way. I have always enjoyed working with Richard and wouldn't hesitate to do so again.

Richard mentioned he had never had to deal with budget & forecasts before and due to the new role he showed an eagerness to get a better understanding of the budgetary process and of the costs within his Budget in order to meet the ever changing deadlines in the world of Software Richard often had Project challenges (both time and cost) and had the knowledge of what was in his budget and what he could prioritise in order to meet the strategic deadlines of the company and ensure product deadlines were not delayed. From a finance perspective, it was good to see a non finance manager eager to spend time to understand the benefits of solid budget & cost control. Richard showed good Budget knowledge, and a sharp awareness of project status within his team and was quick to flag any financial risks from changes in projects / software design - this helped us in Finance have a tighter control of Forecasts etc. Richard's team always showed an understanding of the finances too which reflected his own commitment to meeting the financial targets. Thanks for all your help Richard !!!
