Acting as electrical supervisor at the coal preparation plant, with responsibility for the health and safety of the workforce including the deployment of electricians to the installation, maintenance and testing of electrical equipment. Ordering of spare parts and organising repairs. Management of the managers maintenance scheme for the mine within my area. Carrying out safety inspections, risk assessments and method statements. After serving a full apprenticeship, I worked underground as electrician on coal faces and in developments at Acton Hall Colliery. I moved to Kellingley Colliery in 1985, where I continued as underground electrician until 1999 , when I came out of the mine to work as systems electrician. This involved fibre optic communications and SCADA control systems. I gained my Class 1 certificate in 2005, and moved into management in 2006.
