I was fortunate to have the opportunity to work with Rich at Packard BioScience/BioChip, where his creativity, communication skills and marketing acumen were key to launching our respective products during a company merger. Rich and I worked in different divisions of the company (acquirer and acquiree), and we were each launching instruments with similar applications in approximately the same timeframe. These launches required a high level of communication and resource management, as well as a cohesive branding effort in order to position the two instruments optimally and not create a competitive situation. As the more seasoned marketing director, Rich took the initiative and provided strategy, support and mentorship in what could have been a difficult situation.
