From concept to support, this role requires the wearing of many hats, and the use of many technologies. Some of the these technologies include Unreal Engine (blueprints, C++), Android Studio (Kotlin) and XCode (Swift, Objective-C), SQL (Server and in game). We've built everything from 2d word games to 3d experiences in Augmented Reality (AR). I've embraced art development using Blender, Quixel, Gimp, and other tools as required. I also maintain our WordPress site, and backend servers. Whether it's the ongoing support of our legacy word games, or the conceptualization of our ground breaking Augmented Reality apps, I have a lead role in it. Even the guitar in the game is me!

Leading a school with two campuses, 11 programs, 100 full time faculty and over 2,000 students I had a wide range of responsibilities and duties. In addition to hiring and overseeing the staff I worked to create a healthy work culture where faculty could be their best. I also had to deal with student discipline, policies and university politics including a strike action. My most impactful accomplishment was building a reputation as a speaker that got Tim Cook, CEO, of Apple to visit our classroom and spend over an hour with our senior students.

My responsibilities include administrative and academic tasks related to scheduling, faculty management, curriculum oversight, review, transfer agreements, program review, budget oversight and advisory committees. The Mathematics and Computing disciplines support thousands of student registrants per semester. The department is by some measures the third largest on campus, with over 40 faculty, 4 support staff, 7 labs, a 4 year degree, 2 year transfer program and 3 minors. The cross impact of Math and Computing with other programs, support services and student populations creates significant opportunities to influence and impact the university and wider community.

    • Associate Professor

As an associate professor of computer science I engage primarily in teaching students, while also maintaining currency in my discipline through scholarly activities, including research and professional development. I’ve taught a wide range of computer science and general education courses including introductory programming, software engineering, web development and app development (to name just a few). I am an active researcher in computer science teaching and learning, web development and traffic simulation. My recent textbook on web development has been adopted by over 50 colleges and universities in North America. Consider my recent publications for examples of my research interests

I collaborated with designers and other programmers on web applications that support online shopping and insurance claim management. This software studio used agile methodologies and fostered an open and collaborative work environment. Development relied on a variety of technologies from Ruby on Rails through to JSP using Tomcat.
