Ricardo is a long-time friend and colleague. I first met him in Belo Horizonte when he was considering doing doctoral studies in the UK - I immediately recognised his commitment and energy and had no hesitation in recommending him to Aston Business School, where he subsequently gained his doctoral degree. More recently, we have worked together on several projects, e.g. putting on a track on participatory budgeting at a major international conference in Porto Alegre. He is a thoughtful and experienced colleague, who knows how to communicate with stakeholders in a language they can understand - in the best tradition of bringing academic insight to the aid of policy and practical questions.
