I worked directly under Rhys at JumpCloud for a good part of my tenure and I could not have asked for anything more from a leader. For Rhys, people always came first, and he had always been extremely supportive. He played an outstanding role being the voice of the team, listening to engineers, promoting ideas, identifying focus areas and prioritizing them with the team's input. For me personally, there had been several occasions when Rhys's support made my professional life so much easier, also gave me a chance to balance personal priorities at times when I needed the most. Rhys is also technically very strong. His exceptional experience/knowledge of operations and architecture provided a great dynamic as he would work with the team to prioritize scale and performance projects much needed for the product's growth. We were able to get several such projects going and out of the door with Rhys's blessings and support. His contributions always came as a great value add. When required and schedule permitted, Rhys also dived into the codebase for better understanding and asked me the right questions, or steered me in the right direction during development. Rhys also led the security team at JumpCloud and the group made pretty impressive progress during that time. To summarize, Rhys is a very passionate, technically equipped leader and I am grateful for a chance to have worked under him. I highly recommend Rhys as an engineering leader.

I have had the pleasure to work with Rhys the last two years, and I would be very happy to work with him again in the future. For me that is select company. What sets him apart is his passion for the product and the relationships he makes with his team. I valued his input at every stage of development. Rhys' passion meant doing the best thing for the product such as prioritizing the placement of tooling to measure and enforce quality rather than letting engineers speculate about performance. To me this was a breath of fresh air. I also valued the support he gave me while at JumpCloud. I joined JumpCloud at a low point for me personally, and the support that Rhys lent to me meant the world to me. When we had out of the box ideas that could benefit the product and our DevOps team, Rhys was there supporting and promoting the ideas to product team. As a result of his support our team was able to make sweeping architectural changes, improving the performance of the product while decoupling large pieces of architecture. I highly recommend Rhys as an engineering manager.

At Jumpcloud I grew the software operations and cybersecurity teams from a few engineers to 5 teams totaling 30 engineers in under 2 years. Responsible for hiring, building and developing those teams and staff through hands-on technical contribution and providing process driven structure as the company moved through a hyper-growth stage. The mission of the teams I led was to deliver highly secure IAM and endpoint services on a highly scalable, multi-region AWS platform.▪ Directed DevOps, Cybersecurity, Architecture and Data Engineering teams (managing managers and IC’s)▪ Heavily focused on expanding the Cybersecurity team and overall security framework, including policy / control development, pen and vulnerability testing, and compliance / auditing. ▪ Consolidated a bloated cloud infra setup down to 1 vendor (AWS) that reduced cost while increasing security and velocity of the software development teams▪ Managed the automation team that developed a secure CI/CD pipeline, allowing SCRUM teams to confidently push secure, production-ready code and features multiple times a day▪ Increased release velocity and reduction of concern around new feature delivery through cross team collaboration and secure pipeline development▪ Hands-on experience and partnership development to obtain compliance for SOC 2 T1/2, CIS L1, GDPR, NIST 800-53 and PCI-DSS▪ Data driven leadership approach using key engineering metrics encompassing development velocity, code quality and team morale▪ Ability to spot, attract and retain top-tier engineering talent▪ Passion for developing internal talent, acting as a mentor as needed to build healthy, high performing teams▪ Represented Cybersecurity and Operations in JumpClouds most recent round of funding

The Services Engineering and Technology Team were a small team of engineers tasked with developing a new public cloud ecosystem for Vaisala, eliminating the reliance on and cost of older on-premise data centers. The secondary mandate was to replace an aging internal monitoring service coupled to an Oracle database, replacing it with secure, scalable cloud-based microservices and RESTful API's.▪ Development and implementation of corporate security framework based on NIST 800-53 that helped secure multi million dollar data management contracts with government agencies including NASA, DoD and FHWA▪ Authored a white paper outlining a secure AWS architecture and DevOps structure to deliver data products in a faster, more secure and scalable fashion.▪ Successful development, acceptance and execution of a critical IT strategy targeting 15% CAGR over 24 months through new R&D initiatives▪ Directed and had a hands-on contribution in the development of a new public cloud-based RESTFul ‘API ecosystem’ that resulted in a $250K annual revenue increase.
