During my time as an Environmental Coordinator at John Holland I was responsible for implementing environmental management practices across the Sydney Metro City & Southwest Tunnel and Station Excavation works. Sydney Metro is a state significant project which has a wide range of compliance obligations. To ensure license conditions are being met and due diligence is being demonstrated I was predominately involved in undertaking environmental monitoring, compiling compliance reports, promoting a culture on site where our EPL conditions are considered throughout all stages of the works as well as developing client and stakeholder relationships. During my time at John Holland I had the opportunity to: • Be involved with the management of blasting in a dense urban area. • Become practiced in erosion sediment control. • Build on existing technical knowledge of environmental monitoring practices. • Develop my ability to audit an ISO 14001 environmental management system. • Analyse field data with the use of GIS software. • Interact with regulatory bodies to acquire approvals. • Manage contamination and heritage uncovered on site. • Be involved with all stages of the project from demolition to site establishment to cavern excavation. • Manage budgets and parties with conflicting priorities.

Benchmark Monitoring is based in Singleton NSW and specialises in delivering total solution environmental monitoring systems. Working here allowed me to gain sound technical knowledge of monitoring systems. It also gave me broad exposure to the reporting requirements of many mines across Australia. My key roles during my time at Benchmark Monitoring were the following: • Analyse and interpret environmental data in the following areas: meteorological, ambient air, blast, stack emissions, industrial noise and water quality. • Coordinate data analysis and reporting for Benchmark Monitoring clients on a daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly basis • Undertake daily analysis of Benchmark’s or Benchmark client’s databases and perform data validation as required to relevant standards and best practices. • Undertake daily reporting and dispatch to clients within a predefined timeframe, as per contract requirements. • Provide response to relevant technical staff on the performance of individual monitoring sites so that any faults can be rectified, and data loss is minimized. • Maintain a record of instrument performance and provide feedback as required. • Invalidate continuous data deemed to be unsound based on criteria specified in the QAQC procedures. • Maintain company servers and ensure all systems run as expected. • Use GIS software to create maps that display collected environmental data. • Run and maintain multiple Vista Data Vision web sites that visually display environmental data collected for clients. • Assist clients with collecting ground vibration and over pressure data from routine blasts.
